Description:

This one-day course (6 contact hours, .6 CEUs) is specifically structured to provide building code information for Permit Technicians. This course utilizes comprehensive instruction and illustration of the use and application of the 2021 International Building Code for the Permit Technician, specifically Ch 1 - Scope and Administration, Ch 3 - Use and Occupancy Classifications, Ch 5 –Mixed Use Occupancy/Incidental Use, Ch 6 – Types of Construction, and Ch 12 – Interior Environments. Through the use of instructor-led differentiated activities, instruction and discussion, participants will be able to observe and participate in demonstrations and modeling of use, application intent and rationale of the code.

This class is recommended for individuals preparing for the ICC Permit Technician Certification Test (14).

Learning Objectives:

Students successfully completing the Understanding the International Building Code Plan Review will:

•          Distinguish and interpret the authority and duties of the code official as appointed by the jurisdiction.
•          Identify and relate insight needed to evaluate and execute plan review, inspection and code application during the code submission process.
•          Develop an understanding of the administrative provisions of the Code relating to the permit process including issuance, exemptions, expiration of permits, and the submission of construction documents.
