Understanding Essential Duties of the Fire Marshal

Description: This two-day, twelve hour class(1.2 CEU) describes and examines the responsibilities for a fire marshal running a fire prevention bureau. Course will cover specific administrative duties and functions, technical, and legal requirements based on the individual jurisdictional requirements. Upon completion the new Fire Marshal shall have the tools to understand their role and responsibilities in the position, department, and community. 

Learning Objectives:

Students completing Essential Duties of the Fire Marshal Events will:

• Identify administrative responsibilities of the Fire Marshal. Organizational structure, legal requirements, organizational mission, fundamental strategic planning processes, organizational staffing, roles, and responsibilities, stakeholders relationships. 
• Identify Occupancy types, levels of protection, emergency response capability, loss history, and the unique hazards associated with the community
• Methods of disseminating information to the media, media needs, and organizational policies for media relations
•  Training and professional development principles, guides, and standards
